Cookies and on-device storage

The short version

Right now this site sets no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies at all.You can confirm that yourself: open your browser's developer tools, look at the cookie list for calivue.com, and you will find it empty of anything of that kind.

calivue is intended to be funded by advertising, so that will change. When it does, this page describes exactly what gets set and when — and it changes before the ads appear, not after.

The categories

Strictly necessary

Needed for the site to work and to respect your choices, so they do not require consent. The main example is remembering your consent decision, so we do not re-ask on every page and so ads stay off if you declined. Also basic security, and preferences you set such as metric or imperial units. First-party, and not used to profile you or serve ads.

The calculators' own on-device storage — not a tracking cookie

Every calivue tool runs in your browser. What you type — weight, measurements, age, sex, activity level, goals, training numbers — and anything you save, such as your Progress Tracker weigh-ins, is stored in your browser's local storage on the device you used, under a private calivue: namespace.

As the site is built today, that storage is not a cookie and not a tracking technology:

  • it stays on your device and is not transmitted to calivue or to any third party;
  • we have no access to your inputs, results or saved history through it;
  • it is not used to identify you, follow you across sites, or serve advertising;
  • you stay in control — export a copy any time, and clearing site data for calivue.com deletes it.

⚠️ This is a real design choice, not a promise about your device: no software can guarantee that the browser, extensions or machine you use are themselves secure.

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) — consent-gated, and not yet running

The site is intended to be supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. When ads are enabled and you have consented, Google and its ad technologies — including domains such as doubleclick.net and googlesyndication.com — may set cookies and read information such as your IP address, device and browser data, and ad interactions. Google acts as an independent third party and its own controller for that activity: serving and rendering ads, measuring performance, capping frequency, detecting fraud, and where permitted personalising ads.

These cookies are designed to be set only after you consent. If you decline, or where consent is required and not given, ads are configured to run non-personalised or not at all, and the cookies are not set.

This is a genuine point of data collection, and it is why this site does not claim that "no data is collected". Once you consent, Google collects the data above on its own systems. We do not control what Google does with it and we cannot delete data held there — Google's own policies govern that. We do not receive your calculator inputs as part of ad serving, and we do not share them with Google.

Analytics

calivue does not use analytics that identify you. If that ever changes, any analytics relying on non-essential cookies or sharing data with a third party will sit behind the same consent prompt, and this page will name the provider and describe what it collectsbefore it is switched on.

What is actually stored

Names, values and durations for third-party cookies are set by the provider and can change without notice. Where a row below says a value is set by Google once its tags render, that is a genuine unknown rather than an unfinished sentence — it cannot be stated accurately until the tags are live, and it will be filled in when they are.

How consent will work, and how to change it

Before any advertising cookie is set, the site is being configured to show aconsent prompt through Google's consent management platform, together with Google Consent Mode. Until you choose, and if you decline, non-essential cookies are designed not to be set and advertising to run non-personalised or not at all. Your choice is remembered by a strictly-necessary cookie so you are not asked repeatedly.

You will be able to change or withdraw your choice at any time by reopening that prompt. Withdrawing consent stops future non-essential cookies; it does not by itself delete cookies already stored, or data a third party has already collected. Cookies already on your device can be removed through your browser, and data already held by Google is governed by Google's policies.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, or you exercise a "do not sell or share" right, we aim to honour it — treating ad personalisation as a "share" you can opt out of. See Privacy.

Controlling cookies in your browser

Independently of any prompt, your browser lets you view and delete cookies, block third-party cookies, and clear a site's stored data. This is usually the most reliable way to remove anything already stored.

⚠️ Clearing site data for calivue.com also deletes everything the calculators saved— your weigh-in history and any saved results. Export a copy first if you want to keep it.
