How the streak is counted
A day counts as a hit when the value you log meets that habit's goal — at or above it for an “at least” habit (water, steps, sleep), or at or below it for an “at most” habit. Your current streak is the run of consecutive hit days ending today. If you haven't logged today yet, the streak is measured through yesterday instead, so an unfinished day never looks like a broken streak while it's still in progress — it only breaks once a full day passes with the goal unmet.
Days are whole calendar dates in your own time zone, so it makes no difference whether you log at breakfast or just before midnight — the same day counts once either way. Alongside the current streak, each habit keeps its longest ever run as a record that survives a broken streak. The chart plots how many habits you completed each day over the last 60 days, with a 7-day moving average so one off-day doesn't look like a collapse.
Where the default goals come from
The three starter habits are editable — and worth understanding before you keep them:
- Water — 8 glasses. The familiar “8 × 8 oz” rule (about 1.9 L) is a convenient habit anchor, not a clinical requirement. The US National Academies' reference intakes are roughly 3.7 L/day for men and2.7 L/day for women of total water — and about 20% of that typically comes from food, with the rest from all drinks, not just plain water. Needs rise with heat, altitude and exercise. Thirst is a reasonable guide for most healthy adults.
- Steps — 8,000. The famous 10,000-step target came from a 1960s Japanese pedometer brand name, not from research. Large cohort studies since have found that all-cause mortality keeps falling up to roughly 7,000–8,000 steps a day, with benefits levelling off after that — so 8,000 is a defensible, achievable default.
- Sleep — 7 hours. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society recommend adults regularly sleep 7 or more hours per night, with 7–9 hours the usual healthy range. Consistency of timing matters as much as total duration.
A note on streaks and pressure
Streaks work because they make consistency visible — but a streak is a tool, not a scorecard, and it is easy to turn a helpful nudge into pressure. Missing a day is normal and costs you nothing but a number. Please don't use this tracker to restrict food or drive down calories; it isn't designed for that, and chasing an unbroken streak is exactly the wrong reason to skip a meal or over-exercise. If tracking is starting to feel compulsive rather than useful, that's a good reason to stop tracking for a while — the support resources above are free and confidential.
Your data never leaves your device
Your habits and every daily value are stored only in your own browser (usinglocalStorage). There is no account and nothing is sent to a server. UseExport data to keep your own backup file and Import data to restore it or move it to another browser.
Frequently asked questions
Does missing one day reset my streak to zero?
Your current streak counts consecutive days only, so yes — it restarts after a missed day. But today never breaks it while it's still in progress: until the day ends, the streak is measured through yesterday. Your longest ever run is kept separately as a personal record and is never lost, shown both as a headline figure and per habit.
What counts as a “perfect day”?
A day on which every habit you're currently tracking met its goal. Because it's measured against your current list, adding a new habit means past days are re-checked against it too — so the figure can move when you change what you track.
Can I log a day I missed?
Yes. Change the Logging for date to any past day and enter the values — the streak recalculates immediately. You can't log future dates.
What habits can I track?
Anything you can put a daily number on. Add your own with a goal, a unit and a direction: “at least” for things you want more of (minutes read, protein grams, workouts) or “at most” for things you want less of (screen-time hours, alcohol units).
Do I have to hit the goal exactly?
No — meeting or beating it counts. The ✓ goal button just fills in the goal value for you as a one-tap way to mark a day done.
Where is my data stored?
Entirely in your browser's local storage on this device. It's never uploaded. Clearing your browser data or using private/incognito mode will remove it, so export a backup if it matters to you.
Is a 10,000-step goal better than 8,000?
Not necessarily. The evidence suggests most of the mortality benefit accrues by around 7,000–8,000 steps a day and then flattens. More activity is generally still good, but 8,000 is a realistic target that doesn't set you up to fail — and you can change it to whatever suits you.
